Process Post! Farmer's Market Quilt

On the Farmer's Market Shop Hop in February, we received a block kit at each of the shops we stopped in at. As I began working with these fabrics, I just HAD TO HAVE MORE!! So I have continued adding to my stash of fruit and veggie prints. I'm using "handspray" as the background fabric b/c that is what came with the kits.
Here is what I have done so far :)
The block in the top left is my Underground Railroad block...but you can see which ones are Farmer's Market...there are 10 so far :)
These are the fabrics that I still have to make blocks for:

 Aren't they SO PRETTY!!!??!
I am going to do a thin border of the purple handspray and then a wider border of these veggies to finish the quilt top.
And see that red and white check fabric in the back left corner?? That is what I am going to use as the background fabric in pinwheel blocks....I am using the scraps from each fruit/veggie and making a pinwheel block to alternate with the fruit and veggie blocks. This quilt is going to be BIG!
Here are my scraps...
I have three fabrics that I am trying to decide between for the backing....
The daisy and strawberry fabric is my fav but I think one of the other two may go better w this quilt...we'll see!

Process Post! Springtime Applique Quilt

I am teaching a class on fusible machine applique. I decided on a Spring time theme but wasn't sure what to do, exactly. But I finally decided...Here is the fabric I chose for my quilt (isn't it DELIGHTFUL!??!):

I had decided on some flowers and butterflies and REALLY wanted a watering can...the girls in my classes liked the umbrella on my applique quilt from last year...so I threw that in too...but it needed a centerpoint...so I finally decided on the birdhouse..
I began with a 29x29 inch square for the main center of the quilt.
applied the heat N bond and started tracing

i LOVE this lil watering can!
Isn't the umbrella adorable?!!?
all my pieces!!
this was my original layout...but I wasn't thrilled with the butterflies and flowers.
So I decided on this placement. LOVE it!
I added a 2 1/2" border of the aqua print
And a 1 1/2" pink border
and then a final 2 1/4" border of the purple
I decided on the aqua print for the binding.
Now to stitch the applique pieces down...I was going to do that as my quilting but I am now thinking I will stitch the applique down, just on the quilt top and do some echoing for the quilting...thoughts?

**While working on this quilt I came out to get a glass of water and found this extreme cuteness! I HAD to snap a pic and share it!

A Wonderful Saturday

Today was a GREAT day!
Kyle had a swim meet and did AWESOME! This is only his second swim meet ever and his first since moving up to the intermediate level!
We are SO proud of him! (Pics will be in a dedicated post).

Once we got home from the meet, Ronnie mowed the lawn and I went grocery shopping. We had a wonderful meal for dinner...chicken, steamed fresh squash, zucchini, carrots and broccoli, homemade mashed potatoes and salad...picked fresh from Lisa M's garden!

After dinner Ronnie went out front and worked on the new design he has come up with for the front gate.
Kyle decided to go help Daddy...............

This is the little figure that Ronnie welded together for Kyle, lol. Kyle grabbed a handful of random things and Ronnie turned it into a treasure! Kyle LOVES this!
Meanwhile, I headed into the sewing room!
I've been working on the quilt for my upcoming class. I already have 5 people signed up for this class! SO EXCITING!

Patches!
I learned a sewing tip! READY??........................When needing to make a diagonal line (for HST's etc.), instead of drawing the line and then sewing....you can SIMPLY IRON IT! WHOODATHUNKIT!!!! It's GREAT! I've been using this method like crazy for the past few days and it is SO fabulous! I LOVE IT! (And so simple...seriously, why have we not thought of this!??)

ta da!
And here is my Accuquilt Go! cutting my sashing and borders for me! It's wonderful!

So...how was your Saturday? Great, I hope!

A Lovely Year of Finishes, 2013 UFO challenge/January Goal Setting

I am joining in!!
My January goal is to finish this quilt:
This is one of the projects I was working on for Christmas....I need to add the top flying geese border, then a big 4" border all the way around.
I also need to figure out what I'll use for backing and binding.

That is my goal to be completed on or before January 31st! I have got to get this done...otherwise it will sit just like this until December and then I am not going to remember the measurements or where I found the instructions for these flying geese borders :o)

Are you looking forward to finishing some WIPS &/or UFO's this year? Why not join in on the linky party? It's encouraging and gives you that extra little push to get tings accomplished. If you'd like to, you can check it out HERE.

Process Post

On my "Design Wall Monday" post I shared a project that I was trying to decide what to do with.
this is what my design wall looked like.
I purchased these blocks pre-made. Looking at the center square, it was obvious she was working on a disappearing 9patch.
close up of the other 4 blocks
close up of the print! FISH!!
So....after debating on whether or not I wanted to do a disappearing 9 patch pattern (as opposed to just throwing in some solids and borders)...I decided that I did want to. So...I cut the patches down and arranged them.
my layout at first
Lisa and I looked at this and decided I needed to phenagle another row out of it somehow.
so, I cut some fabric.

and seam ripped some fabric
until I could have enough for THIS layout!

time for the borders!

SO much to say!

Well...it's been just over a month since I last posted.
I have been busy working on a quilt for Kyle. It is a surprise for him to open on Christmas morning!! I've done tons of custom quilting on this thing and i just LOVE it!

Here I quilted in the plateaus as well as around the horses and in the horses mane and tails and the brown grass.

You can't really see the quilting in the snake on this one, but I did all around the snake and around his eye and down his tongue. I also quilted in the mountains and the ground as well as the green plant.

I quilted all in the plateaus and around each mountain lion. I did all the plants too.

This one has quilting up and down all of the cacti, throughout the ground covering and each prairie dog is outlined.

I did lots in this one....around the turtle and around each bump on the turtle's shell. I quilted in the mountains and in the ground too.

My favorite block on this quilt.

Up close of my fav block
I will post a full size pic of the quilt once I finish binding it. I have named this quilt "a memory of Nevada".

Here are the crayon quilt mats Kyle made for Christmas gifts to family this year. He calls this one the "Caramel Warrior"

Here are two more he made.

Finished product! He also made those ornaments for gifts :)

My thought for Valentine's Day.

Round Robin. I added the last border.

MY round robin. This was accidentally sent to me a round too early! But I LOVE it, so I am not wanting to send it on to the person who is supposed to add the 5th border ;)
