Process Post! Farmer's Market Quilt

On the Farmer's Market Shop Hop in February, we received a block kit at each of the shops we stopped in at. As I began working with these fabrics, I just HAD TO HAVE MORE!! So I have continued adding to my stash of fruit and veggie prints. I'm using "handspray" as the background fabric b/c that is what came with the kits.
Here is what I have done so far :)
The block in the top left is my Underground Railroad block...but you can see which ones are Farmer's Market...there are 10 so far :)
These are the fabrics that I still have to make blocks for:

 Aren't they SO PRETTY!!!??!
I am going to do a thin border of the purple handspray and then a wider border of these veggies to finish the quilt top.
And see that red and white check fabric in the back left corner?? That is what I am going to use as the background fabric in pinwheel blocks....I am using the scraps from each fruit/veggie and making a pinwheel block to alternate with the fruit and veggie blocks. This quilt is going to be BIG!
Here are my scraps...
I have three fabrics that I am trying to decide between for the backing....
The daisy and strawberry fabric is my fav but I think one of the other two may go better w this quilt...we'll see!

Process Post! May 2nd, 2013

So tonight I sewed the binding on this jelly roll race quilt! FINALLY...It's only been quilted for months now...and I even had the binding made up! lol. But I finished it tonight...One more UFO marked off the list!
(OK, so I don't really have a list, but...it is a UFO now completed!)

I also am toying with a scrap quilt pattern...this one:

I don't think that these color values are contrasting enough, but we'll see. I am altering the measurements so that I can cut the entire quilt with my Accuquilt Go, so this is just a test block anyway.
Here is my latest addition to the Accuquilt Go! dies! 3 1/2" squares. YAY!

Process Post! Springtime Applique Quilt

I am teaching a class on fusible machine applique. I decided on a Spring time theme but wasn't sure what to do, exactly. But I finally decided...Here is the fabric I chose for my quilt (isn't it DELIGHTFUL!??!):

I had decided on some flowers and butterflies and REALLY wanted a watering can...the girls in my classes liked the umbrella on my applique quilt from last year...so I threw that in too...but it needed a centerpoint...so I finally decided on the birdhouse..
I began with a 29x29 inch square for the main center of the quilt.
applied the heat N bond and started tracing

i LOVE this lil watering can!
Isn't the umbrella adorable?!!?
all my pieces!!
this was my original layout...but I wasn't thrilled with the butterflies and flowers.
So I decided on this placement. LOVE it!
I added a 2 1/2" border of the aqua print
And a 1 1/2" pink border
and then a final 2 1/4" border of the purple
I decided on the aqua print for the binding.
Now to stitch the applique pieces down...I was going to do that as my quilting but I am now thinking I will stitch the applique down, just on the quilt top and do some echoing for the quilting...thoughts?

**While working on this quilt I came out to get a glass of water and found this extreme cuteness! I HAD to snap a pic and share it!

Process Post~January 30th, 2013

I committed to finishing this quilt for the January Lovely Year of Finishes and although I have been sick and in bed for this week and down with my back the previous week, I am determined to meet this deadline!
I completed this top tonight!! And pieced the backing too!
Tomorrow I will quilt and bind it!
I also began this applique project from Fons and Porter while stuck in bed:
Except, I am using different fabrics......
And here's a funny for you :)
What projects are you working on? I would love to see your PROCESS, not just your finished product!

Process Pledge Post

This week I have REALLY been focusing on the Valentine's Day Wall Hanging Quilt for the class that I am teaching at the end of this month. My sewing room is in disarray! But...it is the epitome of works in progress..........

I had to alter the measurements for all but one of the blocks. I was happy with them all except for the bottom right-hand one. I decided that between the problem with the measurements and the fact that it was the only one on an angle (therefore messing with my OCD), it had to go!
(I'll stick it onto the backing)

So....I made this one instead:

After figuring out the placement, I added sashing and a border (sorry for the crummy pic below...for some reason I only had this one on my phone):
I also took a pic with a dark red pinned in place for the sashing and border to show my class a different option. I chose to use the same fabric as the background fabric in my blocks, but the possibilities are ENDLESS!

One last WIP....this is for the orphanage in Mexico...
I just threw it together and stuck it on the design wall....Kind of weird, isn't it??
I am going to sew it together as a "leaders and enders" project!

So...what are you working on? Share your progress!

Process Post!~Oct. 26th

I have unburied my sewing room and began working on some Christmas projects!

Poor 'ol Betsy hasn't been used in months!!
For the past couple of months, all I have done is quilt on my frame. I had SO many quilts that needed to be quilted! I still am not done with them all but am ready to start piecing some projects.
And...Christmas is coming!!!!!!!!!!!

So...I pulled out some of my Christmas fabrics! Especially those that I had assigned to projects in my mind :)
This is my future Advent Calendar!!!

Here are all 25 pieces! Baby Jesus goes on last :)
I love my cat Christmas fabric!

leaders and enders project! More postage stamps!!
I ironed fusible onto the back of these and started cutting them out. Next I'll be attaching them to black felt and then sewing a loop of embroidery thread on them. They get hung on the advent calendar piece...after I quilt it and sew buttons all over it.

My Jacob....lounging in the sewing room.

and Patches curled up...around a roll of cotton batting...on top of a pile of polyester batting :)

She's so cute!

I started working on a Christmas gift  too!

 ............................................................................................................................

I purchased this cardinal Christmas fabric back in 2008 ish?  I think I bought it my first year quilting because it reminded me of my dad :) He always pointed out cardinals to me and my brother when we were growing up.

So...I decided to make a Christmas wall hanging quilt.

But, I couldn't decide whether I should put the tan next to the printed fabric or the red next to it....

I ended up going with the tan first then the red...
Next, I am going to put a 3" finished border of the pinecones

What do you think? Would you have gone with the tan first?

What projects are you working on?
