The Simple Woman's Daybook~July 5th

FOR TODAY...Thursday, July 5th, 2012

Outside my window...it's blue skies and sunny

I am thinking...about how completely strange it is not having Kyle around.

I am thankful...for a great time yesterday with my family!

In the kitchen...bleh...why cook? It's just me and Ronnie!

I am wearing...lol...take a guess? yep...pajamas!

I am creating...an embroidery block, the star quilt-along quilt & other misc quilts

I am going...to take Ronnie's mom to the Dr. today

I am wondering...how that is going to go.

I am reading..."A Love of Her Own" by Maggie Brendan & "The Longing" by Beverly Lewis

I am hoping...that Ronnie has another great day at his new job!

I am looking forward to...TOMORROW!! When I get to go pick Kyle up!

I am learning...that life with just me and Ronnie is pretty darn boring!

Around the house...what's to say...it's clean & uncluttered...everything is staying where it is supposed to be! (lol).

I am pondering...if this is going to be how life is once Kyle goes out on his own...Ronnie and I will need to liven up some! lol.

One of my favorite things...the Red, White & Blue mini quilt that was sent to me in one of the Doll Quilt Swaps! I LOVE it!


A few plans for the rest of the week...Friday I am picking Kyle up and maybe we will make it to the park for the trunk sale, Saturday we are having a BBQ at Mom & John's to belatedly celebrate Ronnie's bday! Sunday we'll be at church.

Red White & Blue Gala

Last Saturday, Cub Scout Pack and Boy Scout Troop 256 participated in the Red, White & Blue Gala put on by the St. Thomas Episcopal Church of Eustis.
It was a neat time of history and patriotism. The scouts did a flag folding ceremony, each fold representing something. 
They practiced outside first:

 Then we all went inside for the program. (See George Washington??)

 After the Pledge of Allegiance and our National Anthem, the scouts did the flag folding ceremony while our Cubmaster read the script for each fold.

 We heard from many patriots! I forget who the woman below was supposed to be :)

All in all, it was a great beginning to the week of celebration for Independence Day and our Cub Scouts did a fabulous job!

Design Wall Monday ~ June 25th

I have been making quilt blocks for the Star Quilt-along on Crazy Mom Quilts' blog.
Lisa & I cut all the pieces to this quilt back in 2010 and are just now getting around to sewing them.
The problem is that back then my cuts were not accurate and so it is VERY frustrating now to try and sew them. I am MUCH more precise now and cannot stand it if my seams don't line up or points get chopped off...and ALL of that is happening. GRRR. But...I am going to sew them together, trimming the small pieces as best as I can to make it right and then trim all the blocks down to the smallest one when I am done. I am going to use solid sashing, not the "Irish Chain" look that Crazy Mom Quilts used.

I am also still working on that scrappy table topper and my embroidery project.

Trip #1 to Ohio, Part 4: Grandfather Mountain

Grandfather Mountain holds a special place in mine and Ronnie's heart. We spent a lot of time here in the dead of winter in 2001. We had our honeymoon then, even though we were married in 99. We stayed in Little Switzerland, N.C. and did lots of exploring along the Blue Ridge Parkway. Almost all of the attractions  in the area were closed for winter, but we visited Grandfather Mountain and had a great time.


The type of azalea behind us is only found in N.C.

I was trying not to flip out in this pic b/c there was a bee by my arm.

they scared me b/c they went over the wire fence-like thingy to this outcropping. They weren't the only ones doing it, but still...made me nervous.
