Eye Candy!

So I have decided on my next quilt....it's called Cherry Spinners from Evelyn Sloppy's book: 40 Fabulous Quick-cut Quilts.

I went yesterday and got all the fabric I need for the top. I really liked the color choices in the book so I tried to stay very close to them:
Here is some of it after I cut it. I have finished cutting everything I need to make this beautiful quilt!

And here is the fat quarters that the children got me for Mother's Day...I got the animal one from my son, Kyle, the yellow one with the bold colors from my nephew, Cody, and the pink one from my niece, Hayleigh...I LOVE THESE!
And here are some other fat quarters I picked up last week...these were on sale for a DOLLAR!
And....the best part....I got three new cat fabrics!!
FYI:Joann's has moved a bunch of their Debbie Mumm fabric to the red tag area!!!!!!! I was so thrilled!

The men have gone off to California to go gold panning and camping...so we are on a sewing mission! We were up sewing until almost 2 am last night and are getting ready to begin again! Nancy is almost done sewing her top together-then all she has to do is add the border. She has already purchased her batting and backing, so we are holding high hopes for a completed top today!

This is the life...

Well, I missed my Simple Woman's Daybook yesterday...I might do it tomorrow though.
Kyle is learning expository writing. He outlined his very first paragraph today and tomorrow he is writing it...!!!! I dont know why but this is hitting me hard! My baby is writing his first paragraph!

I am SO thrilled!! Lisa and I are going to be going on a quilting retreat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I CANNOT WAIT! We are looking at one in Texas right now that lasts for 5 days! I am SO excited....
speaking of quilting...heres a little update for you. The last few days I have been feeling kind of "blah". I have spent so much time looking at quilting stuff that I have not sewn much at all...so...tonight I got on the ball and finished catching up my last 2 Cafe Mom BOM blocks. I also did one (yes, just one) 9 patch for Crazy Mom Quilts One a Day quilt along. Tomorrow I am planning on getting week 3 and 4 done in my 12 week quilt along. Here are my blocks from today...

Happy Birthday Ronnie!!!

Yesterday was Ronnie's 31st birthday! He spent it working on two engines...one in the locksmith truck and the other on the race car. (Hence the grease in the pictures)
We made him two cakes...one with chocolate frosting and one with homemade buttercream frosting with strawberry jam in the middle.
Hayleigh and Kyle made him bookmarks, Cody and Hayleigh and Kyle all made him cards and Kyle and I made him a picture frame with our photo in it :)

Field Trip to the Churchill County Museum

Yesterday we took the kids on a field trip to the Churchill County Museum. They had many exhibits and even a childrens discovery room where the kids could do hands on activities!
It was really fun and the children learned alot about the pioneers coming west and the many hardships that went along with that. We got to see real pieces of wagons and other artifacts from wagon trains that were found here in Nevada. And there were true diary entries from many different pioneers about ntheir daily travels. They learned numerous things about the Pioute Indians...such as their attire in the hot desert, how they made baskets, what their homes looked like, etc. Then they had exhibits from later time periods like the telegraph and telephone, steam roller, bank safes and what a typical home would look like throughout a few, more modern time periods...we weren't very interested in those, except for the first one which was a pioneer home. As most of you know we did a huge unit last year titled "Westward Ho!" and Kyle is wanting to do it again! Then we'll worry about moving on in time :) We really love the pioneer time period!!
We also learned about ALL kinds of rocks and gems...another thing we absolutely LOVE!














There was a quilt area too! I think I want to make this quilt.

The race car

Well, they guys went into Reno last night to go pick up the race car. Someone showed up and offered the guy $8500.00 for it--cash in hand...but since he had made the deal and shook on it with Ronnie and Eddie he begrudgingly stuck by the deal...he was not thrilled about this though...so...they went and picked it up before the guy decided to back out. When they got home they wanted all of us outside to see it and sit in it...I am sure if any neighbors saw they probably thought we were nuts :)
